John R. Smith, Ph.D., P.E., President
Throughout Dr. Smith’s over 40-year environmental engineering career he has been involved with all aspects of environmental remediation and management, with a particular focus on wastewater. He joined Corporate Environmental Solutions LLC (CES) as a partner in 2015, following his 23 years at Alcoa where he most recently held the position of Director of Sustainable Technology Commercialization. During his tenure at Alcoa, Dr. Smith developed and deployed cost-efficient and sustainable environmental technology solutions for Alcoa’s production process operations worldwide including key projects to treat industrial process wastewater, stormwater and sanitary wastewater using a Natural Engineered Wastewater Treatment (NEWT) technology. As a partner with CES, he is a key consultant on a comprehensive industrial wastewater program, which includes integrating innovative technologies into already existing infrastructure to cost-effectively attain permit discharge limits. Dr. Smith cofounded KleanTu® LLC in 2016 with others from CES and he currently serves as President. His current focus is to direct and coordinate KleanTu personnel in the development, deployment and commercialization of decentralized wastewater treatment technologies and sustainable systems aimed at overall water and wastewater management. Key aspects of these systems focus on capital and operations & maintenance efficiency and consistently providing enhanced removal of chemicals of emerging concern, such a nitrogen, phosphorus, priority pollutants, and pharmaceutical and personal care products.
Andrew C. Middleton, Ph.D., P.Eng., BCEE, Chairman
Dr. Middleton’s career spans fifty years, including corporate management, water and wastewater treatment, environmental consulting and expert testimony as well as university teaching and research. In 2001, he founded Corporate Environmental Solutions LLC to provide consulting services in these areas. In 2016, he was a cofounder of KleanTu® LLC along with Dr. John Smith and others. He has served as a key management and technical participant in KleanTu’s development and growth since then. In addition, Dr. Middleton is currently chairing the board of directors of the Augusta County Service Authority, which owns and operates the water supply and sewage collection/treatment systems in Augusta County, Virginia, with around 14,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers. During his career, he has managed a number of environmental companies and served on boards of directors and advisory committees of other environmental companies and organizations. Dr. Middleton is a Board Certified Environmental Engineer (BCEE).
Jaw K. Fu, Ph.D., P.E., MBA: Vice President
Dr. Fu has over 35 years of experience in civil, chemical, and environmental engineering and construction areas, including 25 years with Alcoa. Dr. Fu’s expertise includes engineering design, construction, and project management of installation of wastewater treatment and remediation systems. While at Alcoa, Dr. Fu was the Senior Program Manager of the Sustainable Technology Group responsible for providing scientific, technical, and engineering oversight to critical environmental engineering, science, and sustainable technology related projects. Between 2011 and 2016, Dr. Fu was instrumental in providing strategic direction, engineering design, and construction management of the first passive natural wastewater treatment in the Middle East treating 1.5 million gallons per day. All sanitary and process wastewaters are treated, with 100% reuse of treated water within production processes. Dr. Fu is currently the Vice President of KleanTu® LLC and he plays a critical role in technology development and implementation for the company.
Kellie A. Kuhleman, CPA, MST, Treasurer
Ms. Kuhleman is a Certified Public Accountant with over 30 years of business and public accounting experience. She is a co-owner of the accounting firm Kuhleman Kollar & Associates CPAs, P.C. In her role as President and shareholder of Kuhleman Kollar & Associates, Kellie provides tax planning and compliance services, general accounting assistance and business consulting to a client base consisting of primarily high net-worth individuals, privately-held companies and non-profit organizations. Kellie has worked directly with Corporate Environmental Solutions LLC, an affiliate of KleanTu® LLC, since the Company’s founding in 2001. In her role as Treasurer of KleanTu®, she provides guidance on all aspects of accounting, financial and taxation matters and also acts as a strategic advisor to management.
Laurie V. Winslow, Secretary
Ms. Winslow has been in the environmental business for over 30 years including corporate management and environmental consulting. In 2006, Ms. Winslow joined Corporate Environmental Solutions LLC as a partner and currently serves as President. Ms. Winslow specializes in multi-site environmental program management, assisting her clients ensure continuity of approaches used to investigate, remediate and obtain regulatory closure for multiple environmental sites in their portfolios. In 2016, Ms. Winslow became a cofounder of KleanTu® LLC along with Dr. John Smith and others. She serves on the management team and is currently Secretary of KleanTu®.
